Double Sided Filmic Tapes

tesa double sided filmic tapes use either a polypropylene (PP), polyester (PET) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) carrier. This type of carrier is dimensionally stable and has good resistance to chemicals and heat. As they are relatively thin they are ideal for bonding to flat, smooth surfaces such as glass, metal and non-embossed plastics. For uneven surfaces such as wood it is necessary to select a filmic tape with either a high adhesive coat weight or thin carrier, or both of these. The films are usually clear or white, although there is a range of PET tapes with black carriers in our assortment.

These tapes are usually combined with acrylic adhesives - predominantly tackified (or modified) or pure - which feature similar properties to the filmic carriers in terms of resistance to chemicals and heat. Natural rubber and synthetic rubber adhesives are also used; however, these adhesives do not offer the same properties as acrylic adhesives and are more suited to general purpose, internal applications.
