Double Sided Foam Tapes

Double sided foam tapes offer a number of key benefits due to their properties. Firstly they can compensate for irregular surfaces, allowing a high immediate adhesion on structured surfaces. Secondly, they can fill gaps between the substrates being bonded. Thirdly they can provide a degree of shock absorption – even down to as low as -40°C, offering protection to fragile materials. They can also compensate for different thermal expansion rates of different bonded substrates, allowing a degree of freedom in material choice. And lastly they can be a dust and moisture seal protecting against water penetration and offering a high resistance to humidity. As an example, tesa 4952 double sided foam tape was immersed in water at 80°C and did not suffer a loss of performance even after 12 months.

The foam types used are PE or PE/EVA; additionally we also have double sided foam tapes as thin as 300µm with a PET film reinforced foam which offers excellent die-cutting properties for converting.

tesa’s range of double sided foam tapes is usually combined with acrylic adhesives - either tackified (or modified) or pure - which feature good resistance to chemicals and heat and ageing. Synthetic rubber adhesive is also used but does not offer the same properties as acrylic adhesives and is more suited to general purpose, internal applications.
