The flying splice is a critical moment every time when working with films. The trend toward new film qualities raises the requirements on reliable splicing even further. For cost reasons and in order to reduce packaging waste, films are becoming increasingly thinner, and consequently are more sensitive to tensioning of the film web during production. It has been possible to increase the rate of successful flying splices without reducing the speed significantly compared with conventional splicing techniques. On account of the consistent web speed, the web tension remains constant, producing consistent laminating results, and also reduces the amount of waste in downstream processes.
