Masking
The tesa® range of self adhesive masking tapes covers applications from in-line paint repair of car bodies to bumper masking and window flange masking. Specially developed machines and robots ensure tapes are applied with pin-point accuracy and for areas which are difficult to reach with a roll of tape, tesa offers tailor-made precision die cuts which aid the speeding up of production processes.

Auto Design Masking
Car body and bumper masking
There are masking tapes for 80°C, the usual temperature for paint repairs, and products for in-line repairs for temperatures of 140°C where the whole car body is to be repainted. For masking of car bumpers, generally a combination of fine-line and over masking (bulk mask or roll mask) tapes is used. These need to be able to bond to plastics with low surface energies as well as withstand power wash and flaming process and oven temperatures up to 140°C.

Window flange
Window Flange Masking
Different coating layers between e-coat and glazing adhesives can lead to insufficient bond strength between the top coating and the glazing adhesive.
To prevent this tesa has developed a masking tape for window flanges which is applied after e-coating. This protects the flanges against paint and impurities during processing.
Prior to assembly the tape can be removed - even after more than one high temperature oven cycle. Additionally, as the e-coat is the substrate for mounting the windscreen, no priming or other surface activation of the window flange is necessary.
