tesa – special solutions that bring light to dark places

Whether the liquid crystal display (LCD) is a small one for a mobile phone, or a large one for a TV or computer screen, a precisely sealed frame improves picture quality and reduces the light lost through the display’s backlighting unit. tesa offers various special solutions for light management in electronic devices, from high-quality, metallic black adhesive tape that absorbs and reflects light and is used for special tasks to our black-and-white universal tape.

Monitors & displays

tesa adhesive tapes optimise light quality in a variety of ways: scattered light escaping to the edge of an LCD from its interior can have a negative affect on picture quality, so it is absorbed using one of tesa’s adhesive tapes. The black PET backing material used for the tesa special adhesive tape assortment reduces the amount of light escaping to less than 0.01%.

At another stage during the layered assembly of the LCD, the issue is to carry light, with as little loss as possible, to the light circuit board in order to ensure that the picture is evenly lit from behind. The reflective backing material of the tesa adhesive tapes used for this purpose enables precise transmission of light from the source to the light conductor at the side of the LCD. Scattered light is collected and fed back to where it is needed: intelligent light management that considerably reduces the LCD’s overall energy consumption.

The design of the device also benefits from tesa technology. The thin film enables assembly of LCDs that are as flat as possible.
