tesa Bodyguard Automotive Surface Protection Tape
Critical Issuetesa Solution and Value
A customer in the automotive industry was bonding mirror heating elements. Current product was not working reliably with the consequence the mirror could fall out. As a result they began to use a glue as a secondary fix but this increases product cost and importantly is also an extra process step.We proposed two tapes from our double sided foam range, tesa 4952 and 4957. The one selected has solved our customer’s problem leading to both process and product cost saving, but importantly also means the mirror remains securely fixed in place.
We were asked to design a masking system for the bumper of a new model. The volume was to be higher than normal so masking accuracy was essential with a ‘right first time’ requirement and followed by efficient demasking. The target failure rate was to be a maximum 10% and timing critical. Our design of the masking process incorporated bespoke tesa tape applicators specifically developed for this bumper for fast and efficient masking. The combination of both fineline and overmasking tapes ensured any failures would not be due to tape.
