It is absolutely essential to fully understand our customers’ production processes, including the equipment used, and our UK flexo team conduct regular audits on the shop floor. During one of these audits we saw quite severe ‘barring’ and we were asked for advice. We knew it to be caused either by the print design, the size of the repeat,
or the condition of the press, or a combination of these, and the biggest issue was that the press had to be slowed down to minimise the effect.

  • After trying different settings we established that we could only achieve minor improvements and therefore, as an alternative, recommended tesa x-Soft plate mounting tape, as its very soft foam structure acts like a shock absorber offering a greater cushioning effect.

  • On-site trials attended by tesa personnel focused on training our customer’s staff to use the product in place of ‘standard’ foam plate mounting tapes. This also included preparation of an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).

  • The customer was able to increase running speed from just 100 metres per minute to more than twice that, without any barring.
